This only affects use of the --extra-index-url option, and exploitation requires that the package does not already exist in the public index (and thus the attacker can put the package there with an arbitrary version number). NOTE: it has been reported that this is intended functionality and the user is responsible for using --extra-index-url securely Mend Note: The description of this vulnerability differs from MITRE.
Publish Date: 2020-05-08
URL: CVE-2018-20225

### CVSS 3 Score Details (7.8)
Base Score Metrics: - Exploitability Metrics: - Attack Vector: Local - Attack Complexity: Low - Privileges Required: None - User Interaction: Required - Scope: Unchanged - Impact Metrics: - Confidentiality Impact: High - Integrity Impact: High - Availability Impact: High
For more information on CVSS3 Scores, click here.

Step up your Open Source Security Game with Mend [here](https://www.whitesourcesoftware.com/full_solution_bolt_github) </details><details>
CVE-2025-8869
### Vulnerable Library - pip-23.1.2-py3-none-any.whl
The PyPA recommended tool for installing Python packages.

Library home page: https://files.pythonhosted.org/packages/08/e3/57d4c24a050aa0bcca46b2920bff40847db79535dc78141eb83581a52eb8/pip-23.1.2-py3-none-any.whl

Path to dependency file: /requirements.txt

Path to vulnerable library: /requirements.txt

Dependency Hierarchy: - :x: **pip-23.1.2-py3-none-any.whl** (Vulnerable Library)
Found in base branch: main

### Vulnerability Details
When extracting a tar archive pip may not check symbolic links point into the extraction directory if the tarfile module doesn't implement PEP 706. Note that upgrading pip to a "fixed" version for this vulnerability doesn't fix all known vulnerabilities that are remediated by using a Python version that implements PEP 706. Note that this is a vulnerability in pip's fallback implementation of tar extraction for Python versions that don't implement PEP 706 and therefore are not secure to all vulnerabilities in the Python 'tarfile' module. If you're using a Python version that implements PEP 706 then pip doesn't use the "vulnerable" fallback code. Mitigations include upgrading to a version of pip that includes the fix, upgrading to a Python version that implements PEP 706 (Python >=3.9.17, >=3.10.12, >=3.11.4, or >=3.12), applying the linked patch, or inspecting source distributions (sdists) before installation as is already a best-practice.
Publish Date: 2025-09-24
URL: CVE-2025-8869

### CVSS 3 Score Details (6.5)
Base Score Metrics: - Exploitability Metrics: - Attack Vector: Network - Attack Complexity: Low - Privileges Required: None - User Interaction: Required - Scope: Unchanged - Impact Metrics: - Confidentiality Impact: None - Integrity Impact: High - Availability Impact: None
For more information on CVSS3 Scores, click here.

### Suggested Fix

Type: Upgrade version

Origin: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-4xh5-x5gv-qwph

Release Date: 2025-09-24

Fix Resolution: 25.2

Step up your Open Source Security Game with Mend [here](https://www.whitesourcesoftware.com/full_solution_bolt_github) </details><details>
CVE-2023-43804
### Vulnerable Library - pip-23.1.2-py3-none-any.whl
The PyPA recommended tool for installing Python packages.

Library home page: https://files.pythonhosted.org/packages/08/e3/57d4c24a050aa0bcca46b2920bff40847db79535dc78141eb83581a52eb8/pip-23.1.2-py3-none-any.whl

Path to dependency file: /requirements.txt

Path to vulnerable library: /requirements.txt

Dependency Hierarchy: - :x: **pip-23.1.2-py3-none-any.whl** (Vulnerable Library)
Found in base branch: main

### Vulnerability Details
urllib3 is a user-friendly HTTP client library for Python. urllib3 doesn't treat the `Cookie` HTTP header special or provide any helpers for managing cookies over HTTP, that is the responsibility of the user. When using urllib3's proxy support with "ProxyManager", the "Proxy-Authorization" header is only sent to the configured proxy, as expected. However, when sending HTTP requests without using urllib3's proxy support, it's possible to accidentally configure the "Proxy-Authorization" header even though it won't have any effect as the request is not using a forwarding proxy or a tunneling proxy. In those cases, urllib3 doesn't treat the "Proxy-Authorization" HTTP header as one carrying authentication material and thus doesn't strip the header on cross-origin redirects. Because this is a highly unlikely scenario, we believe the severity of this vulnerability is low for almost all users. Out of an abundance of caution urllib3 will automatically strip the "Proxy-Authorization" header during cross-origin redirects to avoid the small chance that users are doing this on accident. Users should use urllib3's proxy support or disable automatic redirects to achieve safe processing of the "Proxy-Authorization" header, but we still decided to strip the header by default in order to further protect users who aren't using the correct approach. We believe the number of usages affected by this advisory is low. It requires all of the following to be true to be exploited: 1. Setting the "Proxy-Authorization" header without using urllib3's built-in proxy support. 2. Not disabling HTTP redirects. 3. Either not using an HTTPS origin server or for the proxy or target origin to redirect to a malicious origin. Users are advised to update to either version 1.26.19 or version 2.2.2. Users unable to upgrade may use the "Proxy-Authorization" header with urllib3's "ProxyManager", disable HTTP redirects using "redirects=False" when sending requests, or not user the "Proxy-Authorization" header as mitigations. Mend Note: The description of this vulnerability differs from MITRE.
Publish Date: 2024-06-17
URL: CVE-2024-37891

### CVSS 3 Score Details (4.4)
Base Score Metrics: - Exploitability Metrics: - Attack Vector: Network - Attack Complexity: High - Privileges Required: High - User Interaction: None - Scope: Unchanged - Impact Metrics: - Confidentiality Impact: High - Integrity Impact: None - Availability Impact: None
For more information on CVSS3 Scores, click here.

### Suggested Fix

Type: Upgrade version

Origin: https://github.com/urllib3/urllib3/security/advisories/GHSA-34jh-p97f-mpxf

Release Date: 2024-06-17

Fix Resolution: urllib3 - 1.26.19,2.2.2

Step up your Open Source Security Game with Mend [here](https://www.whitesourcesoftware.com/full_solution_bolt_github) </details><details>
CVE-2026-1703
### Vulnerable Library - pip-23.1.2-py3-none-any.whl
The PyPA recommended tool for installing Python packages.

Library home page: https://files.pythonhosted.org/packages/08/e3/57d4c24a050aa0bcca46b2920bff40847db79535dc78141eb83581a52eb8/pip-23.1.2-py3-none-any.whl

Path to dependency file: /requirements.txt

Path to vulnerable library: /requirements.txt

Dependency Hierarchy: - :x: **pip-23.1.2-py3-none-any.whl** (Vulnerable Library)
Found in base branch: main

### Vulnerability Details
When pip is installing and extracting a maliciously crafted wheel archive, files may be extracted outside the installation directory.
